I think one of the hardest things I have faced in my life, was the thought of not being able to conceive a child of my own. Coming to terms with that fact and facing the uncertainty of not having children was agonizing. I know many couples who have faced this same issue, many are still living with this today. My heart goes out to them.

After many months of soul searching and prayer we decided to turn it all over to our Father in heaven. When my wife and I finally submitted ourselves to Gods will, regardless of the outcome, and miraculously we conceived. This came at a time when our lives were undergoing a huge chain of events, all of which culminated into the greatest blessing we could have imagined.

About 10 months after Gabriel was born I wrote Our Little Man. I started writing Sam I Am about a year after Samuel's birth, but went back and revisited his poem at 2 years of age. It was at that time I felt comfortable with its completion. Both of these poems are dedicated to my beautiful, adoring boys. I could not imagine a life without them. They have enriched my life beyond my imagination. It is my firm belief that no matter what you may be facing, no matter how insurmountable it may seem, with God all things are possible.

Our Little Man

A fragile life rest within our hands
We have witnessed the miracle of creation
A new birth, God's most awesome gift
We relish in this moment
In awe of this astounding event
A child is entrusted to our care
Requiring our love and nurturing
In time, seeking our guidance and support

Each day brings a new adventure
His tiny hands exploring every surface
Growing stronger and more independent
His body developing, taking on more form
Our little man is evolving into a person
Gaining a deeper perception of this world
His mind expands with every passing moment
Taking nothing for granted, seeking every opportunity

Our lives are forever changed by this event
Still, at times this episode seems surreal
The circle of life is completed
Only now can we glimpse the love
our Father in heaven has for His children
Parenthood brings us to a new plane of spirituality
And a deeper understanding of those words
....For God so loved the world

Sam I Am

Once again, you have blessed us beyond measure
Words cannot describe this moment
Entrusting us with this precious life
Miraculously delivered into our awaiting arms
Your most perfect creation, our greatest gift

Still in awe of this creative process
Our hearts bursting with emotion
Our little angel brings joy to our world
His smile melts away our troubles
His laugh diminishes our concerns

Samuel is growing before our eyes
We witness our little one stretching his senses
Moving with tactile precision through our home
Absorbing his surroundings
Gaining cognition of his environment

We cherish these tender moments
Cuddling every opportunity with him
Watching how he emulates our affection
It is endearing to witness him hug, comfort, and kiss others
He is our beloved son, our Sam I Am

Time passes too quickly
Each day Samuel is evolving into his own person
Father, what have we done to deserve this blessing?
What special purpose is in his future?
